Truffles and Chutney: Perfect Home Made Gifts for Christmas

How about this Christmas getting into the kitchen and making some beautiful home made gifts for your loved ones and friends. Today I am sharing recipes for Chocolate Truffles and Cranberry and Apple Chutney and I think both these are perfect as home made food gifts this Christmas.

CHOCOLATE LOVE... Say I love you this Christmas with home made chocolate truffles.

CHOCOLATE LOVE… Say I love you this Christmas with home made chocolate truffles.

The first secret to lovely truffles has nothing to do with what goes on in the kitchen – for beautiful truffles you have to have good quality chocolate. Lindt green and black is excellent and you can pick it up in most good shops. The chocolate we use in the restaurant is 65% coca solid and is just beautiful. It is a wonder any of the truffles escape the kitchen!

You can add in different liquors to the make the truffles. We use a lovely local liquor made in Cavan called Coole Swan. If you want to go for an alcohol free version for the kids grate in some orange jest and vanilla instead.

The truffles will keep for about three weeks and the covering for the truffles can be anything you want from coconut to chopped nut to anything you can imagine!

VERSATILE... This Chutney is so nice with so many different meats.

The second recipe I am sharing today is a beautiful chutney. This goes great with Turkey or goose or any fowl and is lovely for leftover ham too. We use an unseasoned apple juice to make this chutney and it will keep happily for three months. This is full of flavour and so so nice and versatile.

We do a fig and cranberry chutney in our Christmas Hamper this year.

So, I hope you enjoy making the recipes and I will be back with another blog soon with more Christmas treats on offer.

DIG IN... Make this chutney as the perfect home made christmas gift.
